Evil Snakezilla

About

Evil Snakezilla was my contribution to the 2024 GMTK Game Jam. This project was developed in a timeframe of 48 hours and made in Unity. The theme given was “Built to Scale” and I went with a concept inspired by the classic game Snake where instead of a growth in length, the player grows in size until they can eat the whole world. All assets excluding the sound effects and music were created by myself.

Design and Takeaways

This was my first contribution to a game jam and I learned a lot about time management and what to prioritize in the development pipeline.

Movement

Part of the difficulty of Snake is the player’s limited movement. The player is forced forward and only given the choice to turn. I wanted to carry this over into my project, but I decided against Snake’s grid forced movement. This way the player can move freely across the screen and when obstacles start showing up it makes it more approachable to find an exit from a dangerous situation.
